Stitching editor – tick off cross stitches on screen and track progress

The stitching editor replaces the printed chart: tick off cross stitches and backstitches, highlight colours, park threads and see your progress.

What the stitching editor can do

The stitching editor replaces the printed chart and the highlighter pen. You see your pattern as a grid with symbols, tick off what is stitched and find your place again straight away next time.

Tick off stitches and see your progress

  • Tap single stitches or use the rectangle selection to mark whole areas at once.
  • Tick off backstitches: with the backstitch tool you tap an outline right in the pattern. All lines are also kept in a list.
  • Tick off half, quarter and three-quarter stitches like cross stitches: tap the square or mark it with the rectangle selection.
  • Progress in per cent, finished stitches and stitching time always in view.
  • Set a daily goal and use the timer to record how long you have stitched.
  • With an account your progress is saved automatically and is there on every device.

Keeping your place

  • Highlight one colour: every stitch of that thread number stands out and the rest fades back.
  • Zoom, pan and show or hide the red ten-by-ten grid.
  • Focus mode: hides everything except the pattern.
  • Rotate the view in steps of 90 degrees when you turn your fabric.

For large projects

  • Park threads: mark the corner where a thread waits for its next turn.
  • Frogging: take marks back when you have to unpick stitches.
  • Undo and redo for every step.
  • Thread bar with every colour, its symbol and the number of stitches still open.

Print and back up

You can print your own patterns and the free patterns as a PDF with grid and thread key, or back them up as a file. Imported PDF charts are excluded because they are protected by copyright.

Backstitches are printed as lines. In black-and-white printing they carry the labels B1, B2 and so on, which the key assigns to the matching thread colour. The key also gives the estimated thread needed for the lines in metres.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app for the stitching editor?

No. The editor runs in the browser on computers, tablets and phones.

Can I stitch on a tablet and carry on at the computer?

Yes. With an account your progress lives in your atelier and is available on every device.

Can I tick off backstitches in the stitching editor too?

Yes. If a pattern contains backstitches, the editor shows them as lines over the grid. With the backstitch tool you tap a line to tick it off, or you use the list. Your progress is saved along with everything else.

Which patterns can I open in the stitching editor?

The free patterns, patterns made from your own photos, patterns you drew yourself and imported PDF charts.
