Running stitch

The simplest line stitch: the needle goes up and down evenly, leaving gaps between the stitches.

Running stitch produces a dashed line. In cross stitch it is mainly used for basting and for guide lines when gridding. For continuous outlines, backstitch or Holbein stitch is used instead.
