Plan fabric and thread properly

The calculator answers the three questions before every project: how large will the design be, how much fabric do I need to cut and roughly how much thread do I need?

  1. Enter width and height in stitches or take them from your current design.
  2. Choose the fabric: Aida, linen or evenweave with the right count.
  3. Set the margin so there is enough fabric left for hooping and framing.

You get the design size in centimetres and inches, the recommended cut size and an estimate of the skeins you need.

Frequently asked questions

How much margin should I allow on the fabric?

Two to three inches on each side is common, and rather more for large pieces that will be framed.

What does 14 count mean?

14 count means 14 stitches per inch, or about 5.5 stitches per centimetre. The higher the count, the smaller the stitched design.
